Area Agencies on Aging are mandated under the federal Older Americans Act to serve as visible advocates on behalf of older persons. The Area Agency on Aging works to represent the interests of older persons by educating public officials, consumer advocates, and the community about older adult needs. The VAAA monitors proposed legislation and policies at the federal, state, and local levels, with an emphasis on health, housing, transportation, income supports, consumer protection, and long term care.
